Rahul Gandhi’s new website asks protesters to put their movements on one map. “Scattered movements get suppressed. Connected movements make governments bow,” he says.
Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Saturday launched ‘Satyagraha’, a website that aims to map protests across the country and bring them together in one place. It went live a day after the 157th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, whose philosophy of peaceful resistance for truth Gandhi invoked. He urged people fighting what they see as injustice to share their stories at rahulgandhi.in/satyagraha.
In a post on X, Gandhi said truth is the greatest weapon and that “an even greater weapon is standing together with the truth.” Every struggle, from students and farmers to Adivasis, Dalits and women, has its own story, he said, and too often each is fought alone.
“No need to come to Delhi”
In a second post in Hindi, Gandhi listed struggles he said are being fought separately: students protesting paper leaks, farmers fighting for their land, ASHA workers who have been demanding their honorarium for months, and Adivasis standing up to save their forests. He asked people to take their movement directly to him, noting that it takes two minutes and that nobody needs to come to Delhi.
He put the platform’s pitch in one line: “Scattered movements get suppressed. Connected movements make governments bow.” The translation from Hindi is ours.
How it works
Users enter their name, the name of their group and details of the protest. Each entry appears on a map, so protesters can see where similar struggles are under way. Those seeking help can also say what support they want from Gandhi and his team.
In a video accompanying his post, Gandhi said he wanted to consolidate information about protests in one place as Leader of the Opposition. “Whatever your protest may be, big or small,” he said, people should enter their details, and he would support them where he can. He said he would act in Parliament, on the streets and through letters, calling it his responsibility.
The timing
The launch comes a day after Delhi Police detained hundreds of protesters near Jantar Mantar, and amid protests over the Election Commission and the SIR, paper leaks, women’s safety, inflation and farmers’ demands. Gandhi had earlier said police action could disperse a gathering but could not suppress the questions citizens are raising.
Why it matters
By Saturday afternoon, the website had drawn more than 150 submissions, with education the largest category at 36. For the students, farmers, ASHA workers and Adivasis Gandhi named, the promise is simple: a protest that felt isolated can now see who else is fighting the same battle, and the Leader of the Opposition has said he will carry it to Parliament and the streets.
A day after hundreds were detained for trying to reach a protest site, a platform that puts those struggles on one map offers something rare: visibility. How much support follows will be the real test, but the early response suggests there was an appetite for a place to be counted.
