The small print, kept short

Privacy notice.

This is a small business run by four people and a few very large fish. We do not sell your details, we do not profile you, and we do not track you beyond what is strictly needed to run the website and reply to your messages.

Last updated: April 2026

Who we are

Northbank Lake is operated by the Northbank family (Alastair Northbank, Iris Northbank, and two keepers) from the boathouse at 14 Northbank Road, Stillford-on-the-Water, Cumbria CA10 2PX, United Kingdom.

The data controller for this website is Iris Northbank. You can reach her at keepers@northbanklake.co.uk.

What we collect

We only collect information that you actively give us, through one of our forms or in direct correspondence.

  • Your name, email address, and (optionally) phone number.
  • The details you share in a booking or enquiry message.
  • Basic, anonymous analytics (page views, referring site) to understand what people read here.
  • A standard server access log retained for 14 days to help block abuse.

How we use it

We use your information to answer your message, confirm your booking, and keep a record of your visit so the keepers can greet you properly when you return. That is effectively all.

We do not add you to any mailing list unless you explicitly ask to join it, and the only list we run is the quiet monthly journal — which you can leave in a single click.

Who sees it

Your data is only read by the keepers and the small team who run this site. We do not share it with third-party marketers, and we never sell it.

The website is hosted by a reputable provider, and contact forms are processed on our own server. Email replies travel through standard email infrastructure.

How long we keep it

Booking enquiries are retained for as long as you continue to be a guest, plus seven years (for tax records).

General enquiries are retained for up to two years, then deleted.

Server logs are kept for fourteen days, then rotated away.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to request a copy of the information we hold about you, to correct anything inaccurate, to ask us to delete it, or to object to how we use it. A single email to keepers@northbanklake.co.uk is enough to set any of this in motion. We will reply within a working week.

Cookies

We use a very small number of cookies. A session cookie keeps your form answers if you navigate away before sending. An analytics cookie (privacy-preserving) counts page views. No third-party advertising cookies run on this site.

You can refuse cookies in your browser settings without breaking anything important on this site.
