Zomato Takes a Stand against Discrimination
Praises for Zomato’s “values” are being tweeted on Twitter
When a man objected to the food delivery executive being a ‘non-Hindu’, Zomato decided to not change the food delivery executive for this costumer. On Wednesday, Zomato publicly defended its decision on Twitter by tweeting, “Food doesn’t have a religion. It is a religion.” Founder of Zomato, Deepinder Goyal, added to this by stating that Zomato does not regret losing business to customers like this. While many Twitter users approved of and praised Zomato for how the company responded, there were a significant number of replies that show otherwise.
On Tuesday, a Zomato user tweeted that when he found out that his food delivery executive was a non-Hindu that he cancelled his order and requested the company to support his demand for the change in delivery executive. However, when the company refused to change the executive based on its policy of not discriminating, the person asked to cancel his order.
Earlier today, Goyal tweeted, “We are proud of the idea of India – and the diversity of our esteemed customers and partners. We aren’t sorry to lose any business that comes in the way of our values.”
The responses from Zomato and by Deepinder Goyal have received a lot of praise by users on Twitter.
One Twitter user tweeted, “Well said! Rare to find corporate voices publicly rejecting the growing hate and bigotry. ”
“So very proud of Team @ZomatoIN for calling out this strange person. Bravo!,” tweeted another user.
In response to Goyal’s tweets, another user tweeted: “Appreciated. Very few stand up for the idea of India. Good to see, a young & one of the most famous entrepreneurs taking a stand!”
On the other hand, many other replies to Zomato’s tweets were in support of the customer who wanted to change his delivery executive for his being a ‘non-Hindu’.
