Here are five components of the story

  • 24-year-old Asif, who was earlier arrested in connection with the Jamia Nagar protests, has been sent to police custody for seven days. According to police, Asif, who is pursuing his graduation in Persian language, was instrumental in orchestrating the anti-CAA protests and riots.

  • Sources said that during investigation, police has come across certain evidence and they needed custodial interrogation of Tanha to confront with the evidence.
  • The action was taken amid allegations from student activists that the police have been targeting them for mobilising peaceful anti-government protests, starting December 2019.
  • Communal clashes had broken out in northeast Delhi on February 24 after violence between citizenship law supporters and protesters spiralled out of control leaving at least 53 people dead and around 200 injured. The police were accused of either inaction or complicity in some instances of violence, mostly in Muslim neighbourhoods.
