News: Delhi Minority Commission has raised the issue of death of two men associated with Tablighi Jamat at a Covid19 Quarantine Centre in New Delhi. The panel has alleged that the two died as they had diabetes and were not provided proper food on time. In a letter to Lt Governor Anil Baijal and Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Commission chairman wrote that the quarantine facility did not have proper conditions and lacked cooperation from doctors and staff members.

Here are five components of the story
  • Two members of Tablighi Jamaat who attended the Markaz in Nizamuddin and were kept at a quarantine facility in Sultanpuri in North West Delhi have died due to diabetic causes
  • Both members hailed from Tamil Nadu, while one of the member Haji Rizwan died ten days ago, 60-year-old Mohamed Mustafa died on April 22
  • Delhi Minorities Commission raised the issue of these deaths revealing the inhuman treatment of the Jamaatis. It said, “inmates are not given necessary and life-saving medicines”, the food is hardly edible, and those who tested negative are being kept in the same facility with infected patients
  • Commission highlighted that many of these people who hail from different regions of the country along with foreign Jamaatis had completed 25 days in quarantine.
  • The commission demanded those tested negative must be allowed to move out of these camps and be given proper medical care and timely food supply
