When and Where:

The mentioning was made on May 8 at Delhi High Court.

Background :

The Delhi Police had booked Zafar Ul Islam Khan on charges of sedition after a complaint was filed against him by a resident of Vasant Kunj in Delhi for allegedly making seditious and inflammatory remarks on Social Media. Dr Khan had earlier thanked Kuwait for standing with Indian Muslims on his Facebook page.

Who Said What:

Soon after his social media post was circulated and TV news anchors invited an outrage, Dr Khan said this statement was twisted and presented by media. He also later issued another statement stating that he stood by what he said and did not apologize as reported by several media outlets.
Meanwhile Dr Khan’s lawyer Vrinda Grover later released a statement saying that his client was a senior citizen with various health complications and that makes him extremely vulnerable to Covid19. And the law as per section 160 CrPC mandates that police cannot compel the attendance of a person above 65 years of age at any place other than their residence.

More :

The police had raided Dr Khan’s residence on May 7 for interrogation.
